Join us on September 7th, 2024 for an enchanting evening of opera at Waterloo Greenway, as LOLA - Local Opera Local Artists teams up with Austin Camerata to bring you a night of timeless operatic favorites. Set against the stunning backdrop of the *Moody Amphitheatre in Waterloo Park, this free concert on September 7th at 7:30 pm is open to the public and appropriate for all ages. Enjoy a magical experience under the setting sun and stars, featuring a talented string quartet and the captivating voices of Julia Taylor, Samantha Balboa, Evan K. Brown, and Scott Clark. Bring your friends and family and revel in the beauty of opera in the heart of Austin!

Andrew Corral
Andrew began playing the violin at the age of 10 in San Antonio. He attended the University of Texas at Austin on scholarship for violin performance where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees under the tutelage of Brian Lewis. In his professional career, Andrew has played with orchestras around the country including the New World Symphony in Miami, the Phoenix Symphony, the Crested Butte Music Festival Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony, the Waco Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and Austin Lyric Opera, and the Dallas Chamber Symphony.
You can also find him performing in many of the candlelight concerts around Austin as a lead violinist. Andrew spent 2019-2022 as the assistant orchestra director at LASA High School and is currently in his third year as the assistant orchestra director at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School where he also maintains a studio of private students. In his free time, Andrew loves hanging with his friends and dogs, eating good food, lifting weights, playing basketball, and riding his one-wheel in which he is actually a professional sponsored rider!
J. Bradley Baker
American pianist-coach Bradley enjoys a versatile career as a soloist, collaborative artist and coach, educator, and music administrator. Baker’s solo performances have been heard throughout the United States, France, Italy, and Canada. As an opera professional, Baker serves as Principal Coach on the Music Staff of The Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, New York, and is Co-Founding Executive & Music Director of Music On Site, an opera company based in Central Kansas, which produces a ten-day Winter Opera Season of professional opera productions in Wichita, Kansas and the surrounding communities.
Baker has also served as pianist, coach, or conductor with Opera Naples, Opera Arlington, Chicago Summer Opera, Lawrence Opera Theatre, Opera Seme, Lyric Opera of Orange County, Landlocked Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, Natchez Festival of Music, Opera Birmingham, LOLA-Austin, Tabor College Opera, and University of Alabama Opera Theatre. As a collaborative pianist and chamber musician, Baker has performed at many international and national conferences and festivals, including those of the International Double Reed Society, International Women’s Brass Conference, National Trumpet Competition, Hot Springs Music Festival, North American Viola Institute, Ad Astra Music Festival, National Opera Association, ClarinetFest, CollabFest, College Music Society, National Association of College Wind & Percussion Instructors, Music Teachers National Association, NATS, among others.

Daniel Kopp
Daniel Kopp, co-founder and artistic director of Austin Camerata, is a dedicated cellist and educator in Austin, Texas. An avid chamber musician, he has performed across the U.S. at distinguished festivals, including Tanglewood, Kneisel Hall, Aspen, and Colorado College. In 2023, Daniel collaborated with the Grammy-winning choir Conspirare, contributing to their acclaimed album "House of Belonging," which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Choral Performance. Through Austin Camerata, Daniel fosters collaborations merging chamber music with dance and storytelling, showcased at venues throughout central Texas. Austin Camerata has been praised by the Austin American-Statesman for its “unadulterated beauty” and nominated by the Austin Critics Table for ‘best classical ensemble’.
Evan K. Brown
Evan, a Texas native, is an emerging heroic tenor celebrated for his “unfailingly vigorous” voice. Known for his commanding presence and passionate interpretations, he has captivated audiences in a variety of roles, including Hoffmann in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Rodolfo in La Bohème, and Hermann in Queen of Spades. His recent engagements have showcased his versatility and depth, from performing Spoletta and covering Cavaradossi in Tosca with Charlottesville Opera to taking on the role of Arvide in Guys and Dolls. Evan’s portrayals of Hoffmann and Hermann both received significant acclaim, solidifying his reputation as a tenor of remarkable emotional intensity.
Evan's operatic journey includes notable performances such as Luigi in Il Tabarro with Angels Vocal Art, Benvolio in Romeo et Juliette with Sarasota Opera, and Spoletta in Tosca with Austin Opera. He has also covered roles like Steve Wozniak in The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs and performed Count Vaudemont in Iolanta, Harlekin in Der Kaiser von Atlantis, and Don José in Carmen. Beyond the opera stage, Evan has been a featured soloist in Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil with the Texas Bach Festival and Handel’s Messiah with the Georgetown First Presbyterian recital series. His talent has been recognized with several awards, including winning the 2018 SMU Concerto Competition and being named Audience Favorite in the 2023 McCammon Voice Competition.
Looking ahead, Evan is set to join the Glimmerglass Festival, where he will cover Canio in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci. His rising career continues to captivate audiences and critics alike, establishing him as a prominent figure in the heroic tenor repertoire.
Julia Taylor
Soprano Julia has previously performed as a soloist with the Austin Symphony Orchestra in Bruckner's Te deum and Handel's Messiah, with Chorus Austin in Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass and Mozart's Exultate Jubilate and with the Austin Chamber Music Festival in Philip Glass' Songs of Longing. Operatic roles include Curley's Wife in Floyd's Of Mice and Men and Frasquita in Bizet's Carmen with Austin Opera, Mimi in LOLA Opera's production of La femme boheme and the Queen of the Night in the University of Texas Butler Opera Center's Die Zauberfloete. She has been recognized as “Best Singer” by the Austin Critics’ Table Awards for the roles of Mimì in La femme bohème and Beatrice in Jake Heggie’s Three Decembers.
Additional accolades include being a winner of the Mid-Atlantic Regional NATS Competition, a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions twice, and a Finalist in the Dallas Opera Competition. Past notable engagements include a performance of Ginastera's String Quartet No. 3 with the Miro Quartet, Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras with guitarist John McLellan and the Williamson County Guitar Society, a solo recital with the Puccini Foundation and performances of Handel's Messiah in Guatemala City and Antigua, Guatemala. Upcoming engagements include performing as a soloist for Chorus Austin's 60th Anniversary Season and a recital with pianist, Nyle Matsuoka, for the Sarofim Guest Artist Series at Southwestern University. Dr. Taylor is currently a part-time Assistant Professor of Voice at Southwestern University's Sarofim School of Fine Arts in Georgetown, Texas.
Samantha Balboa
Samantha, a soprano, is an active performer of many genres, including both classical and contemporary styles. Recent performing roles include Desirée Armfeldt (A Little Night Music), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro), Erste and Zweite Dame (Die Zauberflöte), and Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea). As an avid chamber musician, Samantha frequently collaborates with her husband, Ruben, in presenting recitals for voice, viola, and piano. Her chamber music engagements also include performances with the Austin Chamber Music Center (ACMC) and the Beerthoven Concert Series.
Samantha has received numerous accolades in vocal competitions, including the UNT Concerto Competition, the David Daniels Concerto Competition, and the Matilda Dodge Wilson Award for vocal excellence (Detroit, MI). She currently serves on the music faculty at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where she teaches Applied Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, and stage-directs operatic and musical productions. Recent directing credits include The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Amahl, and the Night Visitors, Into the Woods, and A Year with Frog and Toad.
Scott Clark
American Baritone Scott feels right at home as an interpreter of new work. He created the role of F. Scott Fitzgerald in the new opera The Ghosts of Gatsby by Evan Mack and Joshua McGuire. He also starred as Homecoming Soldier in Seagle Music Festival’s production The Falling and the Rising by Zach Redler and Jerre Dye. Scott was a Resident Artist with the Opera Columbus and Capital University joint program, where he performed the role of Marco in Gianni Schicchi. Clark was an emerging artist at Seagle Music Festival for two summers; there, he performed the roles of Belcore in L’elisir d’amore and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte. He has been a young artist with Houston Grand Opera’s “Opera to Go” program singing the role of Belcore in The Elixir of Love.
Sophie Verhaeghe
Violinist Sophie maintains a year-round schedule of performing and teaching. Currently based in Austin, Sophie is a member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Principal 2nd Violin of the Austin Opera Orchestra. Her love of orchestral music has led her to perform with the crossover duo 2Cellos, the Houston Symphony, and the San Antonio and Madison Symphonies as a contracted member. As a chamber musician, Sophie has collaborated with members of the Met Opera Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Cordova Quartet, and Latitude 49, as well as clarinetist Dimitri Ashkenazy, violinist Chee-Yun, and pianist Anton Nel.
A passionate educator as well as performer, Sophie maintains her own private studio in Austin with students ranging from age 5 to 18 and spends her summers mentoring students in chamber music at the Manitou Chamber Music Festival in Colorado. In addition to her orchestral and teaching duties, Sophie is a co-founder, violinist, and Director of Operations for Austin Camerata. The organization has been featured on KUTX and Austin360, and was nominated by the Austin Critics Table in 2019 for “best classical ensemble.”
Sophie holds degrees from the University of Michigan (Bachelor of Music), Boston University (Master of Music, where she braved the historically snowy winter of 2015), and the University of Texas at Austin (Artist Diploma). Her previous teachers include Jeri Jorgensen, Aaron Berofsky, Bayla Keyes, and William Fedkenheuer. In her spare time, Sophie enjoys cooking, running (she ran her first—and possibly only—full marathon in February 2023), reading, and watching college football.
